`Ohelo Papa, White Strawberry
Fragaria chiloensisOne of our indigenous natives, the `Ohelo Papa also grows native to Alaska south to Chile. Perhaps ancestors of Hawaiian birds brought indigestible seeds of Fragaria long ago to sprout in an ancient Hawaii. The White Strawberry can be seen on Maui and Hawaii islands between 3500' and 7000' ASL. The Hawaiian goose, the Nene, and ancient Hawaiians favored eating the little fruits.
