Oak Fern, Pai`i`iha
Dryopteris dentata

Another one of the more common native indigenous ferns, the Pai`i`ha is seen in low elevation, moist areas of Hawaii. This fern easily volunteers into other places, as sometimes they grow out of houses (eaves and rain gutters) and cars in Puna on the Big Island. Fiddleheads and tuberous roots are edible and nutty.
